Park History

  • Phase I - Est. 1965

    Joint initiative of the University of New Mexico and the Albuquerque Industrial Development Service Initially housed defense contractors until they were scaled back in the mid 1970s. 

  • Phase II - Revived 1988

    New interest in Science & Technology Parks nationwide Private developers commenced development of 42 acres in concert with UNM Market conditions did not support implementation of the master plan.

  • Phase III - Mid 1990s

    University leadership guided new development

    STC.UNM was created and funded by UNM to:

    • Commercialize new technology
    • Manage Park real estate requirements
    • Start-up companies became the focus of marketing efforts
    • Corporate presence was established with the addition of Lockheed Martin

     

  • Phase IV - 2003

    • STC.UNM continues to act as the commercialization arm
    • Property Management and Park development shifted to the University Real Estate Department
  • Master Plan 2010

    Development focus includes:
    • Amenities
    • Hotels
    • Restaurants
    • Housing
    • Development & Research Buildings
